Dear lord, i think i'm gonna have to shoot myself after this. Your playing is truely from another planet. The richness of movements and the expression... completely overwhelming!

You are a true Maestro, brilliant. I would love to hear you play "Pavanne for a Dead Princess" by Ravel. I think it would be well suited for the Theremin. I'm suprised the Theremin is not more popular. 'Tis a shame. One day I must own one of these beautiful instruments. Thank you for posting. ~Jon

Thanks for the kind words. I will certainly consider your request
One reason for the theremin's absence in past popular culture is that it is difficult to play, but also, it was once commonly associated with sound effects in movies. Fortunately, this is changing, and it's being found in more, and more genres, but the job of making the world as aware of theremin
s as pianos is an ongoing process. Ironically, theremins were invented nearly a hundred years ago.

Wow. First time I heard of a Theremin but I am a musician and can thoroughly appreciate your amazing skill and talent. I can't even imagine holding my hand steady like that for so long. I'm definitely going to check out your other works and let others now. Wonderful job. Thanks for sharing.

Your pitch is ... ( 2 months ago by cadetstarnoodle)
Your pitch is fantastic. Like many musicians who are also singers (we exist) I am very eager to try my hand(s) at the Theremin. You have a great repertoire! Your positions: is this your own development or did someone show you his/her style/technique? Are there treatises, as it were, on the playing of the Theremin? Perhaps from Mr. Theremin himself?
Thanks for the kind ... ( 2 months ago by ThomasGrillo)
Thanks for the kind words. My technique was developed after many hours of watching videos of Clara Rockmore, Lyidia Kavina, pamelia Kurstin, Peter pringle, Randy George, and several others. I combined many of these thereminists techniques to form my own technique. For the most part, I'm self taught.
There are books written by Carolina Eyck, Clara Rockmore, and Victor Estrada, as well as Saxton, on how to play theremins. To this day, I do not know of a training method written by Leon Theremin.

Hello. It took me about a year, with 8 to 10 hours a day, every day to learn the theremin. I'm still learning new things about it from time to time. ;)

Well, you can't get much more different than the theremin. ;)
Starter models like this one are between $150, and $350 from soundslikeburns, while intermediate models like Moog Etherwave Standard run between $350, and $400 from moogmusic. The current pro level models run about $800 to $1800 from wavefront. All are avialble on the web at the above, and through
other online instrument retail outlets, as well as e-bay.

I do recommend the B3s as starter theremins because they have no additional gizmos to distract the student from learning their techinques. Also, it does have a softer, more stringlike tone than the Etherwaves.
The Etherwaves are more expensive, because they offer additional tonal control via waveform, and brightness knobs. They have a different tonal charactor. they sond more like a brass instrument, in some cases.

Hi thomas, great video. Is the close proximity between the volume and pitch antennae an issue when playing the basic b3 model?
Thanks for the kind ... ( 1 month ago by ThomasGrillo)
Thanks for the kind words.
The short distance between antennas on the original B3 is a bit of an issue because the playing field had to be very small to keep the volume hand from affecting the pitch field. Burns has solved this problem by producing the B3 Deluxe, and B3 Pro which both use 18 inch long wood cabinets to allow
the pitch field to be spread out properly.

You play very well :D I'd like to have one of these myself; is this theremin a true analog theremin, or a digital one that simulates the sound?

Thanks for the kind words.
The All of the theremins from Burns are analog theremins.
