My eyes are wide open, but you need to READ. Fishbone has been around for over almost 30 years. 30! And back when Sony was promoting them with videos like the one above, the main "black music" selling to the mainstream was hip hop & RnB. THAT is what I'm talking about. Nowadays, in 2008, things are different. Also, "yes" radio play (read: advertising) is important. Please state more obvious facts.
question: how many ... ( 3 months ago by maxedwell)
question: how many other albums did Living Color put out that garnered even moderate critical acclaim? I own their first album, but just like many other bands, Living Color put out one kick ass album that only had 1 and arguably 2 "great" songs. The rest of the album was good IMO, but I was one of the few people who cared enough to even buy the full album instead of the single. Hate record companies all you like (I do), but you can't blame them for everything including one-hit-wonder bands.

Reality of my Surroundings is an amazing album start to finish (Fight the Youth, So Many Millions, Everyday Sunshine, Pray to the Junkiemaker etc.). Fishbone was one of the best live bands around in the 1990s, miles better than the overrated, musically challenged RHCP

The best live band ... ( 2 months ago by thegools)
The best live band ever imo. They seemed tto come to DC every couple of months in the late 80's. They were the best.
I saw a triple bill two nights in a row in DC in 1988. It was the Red Hots, Fishbone, and Thelonius Monster. Fishbone played second and thus the Red Hots didn't come off as well because Fishabone Rocked the house both nights.

Somehow this violent and unfortunately sad song match with the happiness and grace of the the dancers. One of the video that makes Youtube worthless of a visit.

I saw them in 88 at the university venue at Columbia Missouri. I'd only seen the video to Party At Ground Zero. They were the sweatiest, balls-to-the-wall dollop of magical funk, rock, ska, play anything I'd ever seen. When I walked out of the theatre, my life and my musical sensibility were both permanently altered.

I'm talking five years prior to that. I had only seen one video of them and was unfamiliar with their material and walked away a convert. The SNL was Everyday Sunshine and can't remember the other number they played. Does anybody know how to find the clip of them doing "Shattered"?
