POST 1 So they ... ( 8 months ago by villianousjester)
POST 1 So they used flickr to connect images together. What this means is they can create a digital world. like Google Earth. Except for more complete. You could basically move through this environment, through the photos shown. Moving through any street, or famous building, or park, etc. Not just through space in the virtual representation, but time as well. the real world changes, and photos are taken at various times so new buildings are added, others are taken down.
Post 2 You could ... ( 8 months ago by villianousjester)
Post 2 You could move to a location, say, Times Square, then move through time, and look through the environment shown, throughout the years.. Not just photos but videos. That in itself isn't so amazing. I mean its cool, but its more what can be done from there that is cool. It means that an application can be made that is basically a video game that is an exact representation of the real world. You can move through this "matrix" environment, and talk to other people.
POST 3 Not only ... ( 8 months ago by villianousjester)
POST 3 Not only that, but you could conduct business. Fuck web 2.0 this is web 3.0. Whats amazing is the possible features to be added to the application. once the 3d world exists, specific locations could be tagged. you could then find a list of movies that have been filmed at that locations. You could find events that will be happening in public events. Buildings could be linked to the websites that they correspond with. Want to buy a house? check out the area in this "world".
POST 4 People ... ( 8 months ago by villianousjester)
POST 4 People could volunteer information to be tagged with their house. email addresses, names of who lives there, etc. Not even volunteer, sadly, it would probably just happen without their consent, through public records, etc. Of course, this gets freaky. but technology is getting freaky. most people don't want to deal with their future shock, especially politicians, they just stick their head in the sand. the truth of the matter is, its coming and rapidly.
POST 5 You could ... ( 8 months ago by villianousjester)
POST 5 You could find scenes from movies and books and artwork that correlate to a specific place. Basically its like using Google on real life objects around you. Its like when you click on a character in a video game, it shows you their hit points, and name and rank, or whatever. With this you click on an object and you could theoretically have most recorded human knowledge at your disposal.
Really what Ive ... ( 8 months ago by villianousjester)
Really what Ive said here is just the very beginning of what this could be used for. The possibilities, for better or worse, just grow from there. military applications: how does fighting change when you have a precise 3d model of everything around you. We already have satellites, etc. And as a added bonus, this could easily be combined with the technology shown here: watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw
