This is one of those things that sounds great (like seeing the person you are talking to on the phone) but turned out to be bunk. Live and learn.

my first pda was a newton i got for a few hundred, and after using 4 other pdas all i can say no other machine was so easy to write on and recognized you handwriting than a newton
i only gave it up because it wasn't in color and no sd slot to transfer my info to my new computer Steve jobs only killed the project because it was his rivals idea, that just shows what an over controlling asshole he is.

I know, the newton looks like crap, including the interface. So, because he designed the iphone (pretty much the successor of Newton), and it looks great, I love him.

"From the start, Ive won his share of accolades. He designed the first PDA to run Apple's short-lived Newton software. But by the time he replaced Brunner to become Apple's design chief in 1996" -- From Buissnes Week; Who Is Jonathan Ive?

i bet if apple released a newer version of the newton, yet less expensive, it would be one of the most inovative ideas since the computer itself

Wow, I'm amased at how difficult it's to use. What a pain in the ass.
I'm glad they got everything sorted by the time the iPod Touch/iPhone came out.

Difficult? What the hell are you talking about!? It was a one of the first portable computers, not a toy like deviced mentioned by you. Ok, maybe iPhone is something more, but in my opinion lack of stylus and any handwriting recognition system is serious mistake. Now I preferred rather still be a PocketPC (HTC) user than buy an iPhone to impress my friends.

Well, for instance, they assume you adapt to the technology, not the other way around like with more modern equipment. And the iPod Touch/iPhone is really the spiritual successor to the Newt (though I guess Apple might come out with a tablet maybe later).
Yes, but if you ... ( 1 month ago by Atlantis1986)
Yes, but if you adapt you can simply do much things much simplier. For example Graffiti handwriting recognition system (Block Recognizer on Windows Mobile pletform) is much better and faster than thumb virtual keyboard from iPhone - I Am using it on my PocketPC device to type short messages (when I don't want open hardware keyboard).

Wow! I am still amazed at this device's simplicity. I still wouldn't mind using it. I mean, large screen, good handwriting recognition and I notice that there is NO lag while writing at all! This is something I don't even have on my HTC Touch Dual! Crazy stuff! I wish we still had dedicated Palmtops and I wish I was old enough when all this happened!!
