I think they meant to say it isn't a song because there is no vocal part. No singing technically means it's not a song, though I agree it was a bit pretentious to point it out.

this song is so nice...
our choir sang a part of it as one of our warm up drills saying each note as "bum." and our teachers thought it was so nice we got to sing it in the concert with just that it was the senior class's names instead of "bum"
it was totally cool~
