My best guess is a Stratocaster guitar (some delux model) using 2nd position on the pickup selector. He's probably using a solid state amp since he needs to keep the volume low so he can talk over it. Maybe even using that valve gadget he demoed a little while ago. I'm guessing a good amount of reverb, and a little crunch.

Something i would like to add... When you are soloing with different scales related to each chord sepparately, be extremely careful with your bends, cause a misplaced bend can ruin the whole phrase you're doing... as stupid as it may sound, this is incredibly important

I'm a beginner, I just want to know how you get that blues tone, is it the guitar or is it the amp? I have a hamer stratocaster and a small ibanez amp and it does not have that creamy tone.

its mostly the amp you want a good fender amp for good blues tone and if you dont have that set treble on 7 and bass on 2-4 with no distortion and maybe use you neck pickup too.

Yeah but once you get good you start bending off key notes unpurpose. Mixing in a little controlled chaos gives it that hendrix type of sound.

between a les paul and a strat? :S its like night and day! strats are brighter sounding, and les pauls are warmer sounding. humbuckers give the warmer tone (les pauls) single coils give the brighter tone (strats). depends what kinda nusic you wanna play tho what you should get.

lol. depeneds what you wanna play. for metal hard rock? yeah a les paul wins ever time. but if you wanna play blues or reggae or anything you want a birhgter sound for? strats win every time. neither is "better" on its own. it depends on the ocntext of your playing.

I personally like Strats, because there really isn't much you can't do with it... except for Jazz, I don't like Strats for jazz.

Personally, I think it's more the pickups you use. A higher end Stratocaster, or higher end Strat pickups, will give you a better sound for Blues. You want some epic Blues pickups, check out Texas Special Strat pickups.
