Push-Off Conspiracy Theory - Settled here.
Many claim that Drew Pearson pushed off.
I have uploaded 2 versions of this play on youtube. You will not see any arm extension by Pearson in either version of this play to justify the push-off claim.
Use the replay feature as best you can to stop and review the play frame by frame. At 0:20 seconds, you will see that #43 gets his own feet tangled up at the 9 yard line when trying to turn inside and get into positon to see the ball. His right foot comes in contact with his left heel and throw
s him off balance. It almost looks like he might have stepped on his own shoe lace. From that point forward, he is off balance between the 9Y line and 6Y line and could have contributed to the incidental contact between them. On the 6 yard line, Pearson plants both feet to make the catch. Still o
ff balance, the defender's momentum from the incidental contact carries him across Pearson's right leg/foot and causes him to fall sharply to the right.... as Pearson backs straight into the end zone. Per my other uploaded video of this play, you will see that Pearson is the only receiver in this
quadrant of the field. So, why is #22 not closer to assist? There is nobody else downfield that he may have been covering. So.... WTF is he doing? -- covering the referree??? or just "watching" the game ???

Even if they'd won this game, there's no guarantee they'd have won the Superbowl, so no point agonizing too much over this one.
The Vikings did play the Cowboys on Christmas day, but it was in the first round of the 1971 playoffs. They lost 20-12.
