Bunny Berigan & His Orchestra - I Can't Get Started With You

Video Description:
At request, I'm uploading this unforgettable version of a well known standard. On this record, made for Victor on August 7, 1937, we hear Berigan in both the vocal and trumpet solos. Here are the lovely lyrics:
I can't get started I've flown around the world in a plane I've settled revolutions in Spain The North Pole I have charted still I can't get started with you I've flown around the world in a plane I've settled revolutions in Spain The North Pole I have charted still I can't get started with you o

Probably the best example of 'big band' recording ever. It has everything. Memorable tune, clever lyrics, perfect arrangement, classic vocal style, great soloists. This song never sounds cheesy and it's never been bettered. You'd give you right arm to get this band in a modern recording studio.

"... does the hair on the back of your neck stand h-up"... he surely does! Why? I guess because this rendition is so intense and passionate - a rendition that will still stand forever.

kspm01 - I inherited this album from my dad's collection, rest his soul, and I never tire of this masterpiece. For me, it's the definitive song of its era. The arrangement is flawless and the trumpet solo is in my opinion Bunny's best. If you can find it, check out Maynard Ferguson's rendition of "Maria" from West Side Story. Exceptional trumpet there too. Thanks for sharing.

Is this not the song that Louis stated he would not perform as long as Berigan was alive, as it was his song. His coronet playing was second to none. He and Bix will likve forever; however, let us hear it for Red Nichols, who is under appreciated.

This is one song I never get tired of listening to, and Bunny was perfect for this number. If you would like to hear more of Bunny as a terrific sideman, try listening to some of the early 1930's Boswell Sisters songs. You can hear Joe Venuti as well on many early 1930's songs by the Boswells.

I was only one year old when Bunny died in 1942 but I still love and appreciate this music from the Big Band Era. Harry James was probably the one who took over where Bunny left off and I do remember hearing him on the radio while I was growing up. Thank you for keeping this wonderful music alive.
