Death isn't nearly the worst thing that can happen to a person... Think of a horse... When a horse breaks it's leg, it is sacrificed. Because it goes into agony. From some level of physical degradation on death is a bliss.

Thats one point of view...
Remember not all Aikido scools are built by HIPPIES, Some of us do everything O-sensei passed on, within the guides of the founder (Tomiki Sensei) of our direction of this art. Are you not aware of all the trials and tribulations that even O-sensei had.. Those are competitions with a higher cost. Live A Little sometime you might find that you enjoy it.

This trailer is about "doku"-do. The person on the trailer -- who hovewer seems to be highly skilled in his techniques -- never speaks about the concept of the "other" with who you practice and jointly gain experience and broaden your own scope of techniques.

Sorry about the slow reply. Scott teaches in Sheffield pretty much every day, and he's often available for private tuition in his new dojo. (Just around the corner from the one in the film, which sadly is being demolished now.)

I agree 100%. This video is not Aikido... without a training partner the movements are meaningless and are rather dull to watch, not to mention hard to decrypt by non-Aikido audience. Meh.

I think you should see the whole film rather than comment on a trailer.
In the Shodokan system we have a structured system of basic practice exercises, the first ones are performed without a partner but by the whole class simultaniously. But why can you not practice weapons by one's self? Just bokken cuts to strengthen wrists and relax sholders? Or practive the jo k
ata by ones self. That one i like for movement and fitness.

I believe that these individual movements were developed by Tomiki while he was in a prison in Siberia after WWII. It's hard to practice the essence of Aikido without a partner! As a result, he developed series of movements to help him stay sharp and work on the basics. This won't replace working with a partner, but it CAN complement it!

Those are two pronounciations of the same word, my friend. When one writes a Kanji, there is no alphabet to it, so if one says 'shotokan' rather quickly, it could be interpreted as 'shodokan'.
