Rafael Mendez - Jota Number 2

Uploaded by: Zooter1940s
Video Description:
Rafael Mendez is without a doubt the greatest trumpet player who ever lived. If you watch this video you'll see why. The effortlessness in which he goes through extraordinarily difficult passages is unbelievable. And while still playing majestically and musically keeps his performance from being nothing but technicality.
In this video he is performing Jota #2 with the David Rose Orchestra. There are a few more performances I have so look out for them in the near future.

You don't actually need to circular breath, a great trumpet player I know and the people in his section all say the same thing: practice with air enough and you will have enough to last until a breath with some left over. Also, music is meant to have spaces so to circular breath actually defeats some of the finer points of music playing, as a well timed breath can be just as important as a good crescendo in the professional world. Or so I have heard.

He is the greatest ever, because he was the FIRST to make it a solo classical instrument. Maurice and everyone else, as great as they were and are, follow Raphael. IMHO

Tee tee kee isn't ... ( 4 months ago by ethanthemusician)
Tee tee kee isn't different from tu tu ku or ta ta ka, they put those vowels in to make you think of the "ee" sound and that makes your lips and tongue move cleaner and quicker. It's good that you use the Arban method.

The fact that these ... ( 2 months ago by NoirMusic)
The fact that these are all in the brilliant high(ish) register help. Maybe it is just me but I find that I can go measure after measure with no breath on the staff or above, it is when I get low staff or below the staff that I start either dying or wishing the composer would.

How do you not figure the first? He may not be the first ever but he was the first to really bring a lot of attention to the trumpet as a solo instrument.

Well obviously he wasn't the first soloist ever, that'd be ridiculous to say, but he was the first trumpet soloist to really gain a lot of recognition and fame, that's all I'm saying.
