I wuz gonna say Mr. Monk was doing brilliantly following Mr. Rouse. Towards the end it did seem Mr. Monk's brilliant accompaniment begin to rival Mr. Rouse's solo. Makes for great music.

I can't remember where but i read that Monk and Miles Davies were going to record an album for columbia, but Miles stormed out of the session complaining that Monk's accompaniment was putting him off.

Miles Davis refers to this in his autobiography. He says that he was put off by monks style of accompaniment and ask him not to play during miles' solos. Monk apparently took exception to this and rumour had it the two came to blows, though Davis says those claims were exagerated.

yea. i think he suffered from schizophrenia. but he was well educated in the piano, he just never wanted to learn how to play it correctly, thats why it looks like he slaps the keys. learned it in my development of jazz to rock class

To each his own, but John Medeski is a bad dude, but he ain't what Larry Young IS. Larry was one of the baddest cats on B3; check out Unity...Also, I'd think that Herbie would be #2, just because...McCoy Tyner could get #3, but he ain't here either? Oh the shame, LOL!!!! Again, to each his own :) Glad Brubeck is here though...And yeah, you did miss Tatum....And Mingus (him too)...But it ain't about who's best....
