okay what i do is i put one mike inside the bass drum, and another mike as an overhead. put the mike far enough from the kit that the cymbals don't sound too harsh, but close enough that the snare and toms will be picked up. its a very very simple recording technique but it sounds good if you just play around with the mikes. the mics i use are two cheap shure mikes from best buy.

i have a mixer with only 4 mic entrances. can we record drums twice ( i mean first mabye snare, kick, highhat, crash) and then the toms, rides .. or cymbals anyway? or is this not possible in pratics?

if all you have is 4 then use drumagog. 2 overheads, kick and snare. copy tracks from the overheads for each tom track. gate what you need on each track and use drumagog.

well, ive seen some bands, like Maylene and the Sons of Disaster record snare, kick, and toms first, then do all cymbals & high hat after. or vice versa, you get the idea. long as you get the timing down to have it all smooth, you could do that.

I MUST stress that the MOST IMPORTANT thing when recording drums is tuning the drums! Get a good drummer on a well tuned kit in good room and youre probably 50% there, the other 50% is mic choice, placement, pre's and conversion. TUNE THOSE TOMS!! Otherwise great vid :)

I did everything on Acid, techno, hardcore, and i even use it to record my bands stuff whenever we wanna actually get to it and record lol. so yeah, it is geared towards one or two specific genres, but it can be used for virtually anything.

ya but i think protools is the way to go man, like acid pro doesn't have all the good compressors and fx for bands
