I was assuming that it would be the same vocalist as on the record. Rust says its Frank Sylvano. However, an RCA Victor LP reissue says its Frank Hazzard. After listening to several records of all of them I think you're right - but they do sound fairly similar.

Good ol' ish! Tuba on all 3 selections. But, where's the string bass? The Jones band always had both. One keeping time for the rhythm section the other for the rest of the band. Any clips of their 30'-32'group?

It has been written that Jones used both a string bass and a brass bass on most of his recordings. The truth is that he used both for the first time on his last session with Victor in 1934. He continued using both when he moved to Decca for awhile. One of the best examples of hearing them play together is on "I've Found A New Baby" recorded for Decca in 1934. It's also one of the hottest records Jones ever made.

That's the great Sonny Lee blowing hot tram on "You're OK." His section mate, a Jones band stalwart, was Red Ballard, who went on to join the fledgling Benny Goodman Orchestra in 1934 and stayed for six years. Jones, a superb composer, led my favorite white pre-Swing Era band. Marvelous video; thanks!

Woody Herman didn't join the band until late in 1935. I suspect that this clip is at least a year or two earlier.

I'm a big big fan of the Isham Jones Orch. I lead a 13 piece 20's/30's band myself and strive to get that Isham Jones ensemble sound. IT'S NOT EASY.
